Leeds United wrapped up their pre-season in impressive fashion on Saturday, thrashing Augsburg 4-0 ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

Attention will now turn back to the transfer market, with the club still looking to strengthen the squad and address a few key areas before the window closes.

Leeds have already reached an agreement to sign centre-back Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, with Sebastiaan Bornauw set to leave Elland Road and join Hamburg this summer.

The Whites also want to bring in another striker, but they first need to resolve Joel Piroe’s future. Leeds are unlikely to add another forward until they know what is happening with the Dutchman.

Next Leeds United transfer nears completion

Bornauw is not the only Leeds player who is expected to leave Elland Road this summer. Joel Piroe is keen to move on, and there are question marks around Wilfried Gnonto’s future too.

However, Lucas Perri is almost certain to leave, with Torino and Marseille fighting to convince the goalkeeper to choose one over the other.

The Brazilian was on the verge of joining Torino last week until Marseille stepped in and tried to hijack the move.

But according to Foot Mercato, the Italian side have regained the edge in the race to sign the Leeds goalkeeper in the ongoing summer transfer window.

They have had more talks with Perri and his representatives, and are also prepared to improve on their initial offer of a loan with a ÂŁ9.5m option to buy.

The Serie A outfit are expecting to finalise all the details of the agreement with Leeds and the player before the end of the window.

Torino plan to put Perri through a medical on Monday before making the deal official.

Leeds needs Lucas Perri to decide soon

Lucas Perri and Torino have been waiting for weeks for James Trafford’s move to Leeds to clear the way for their own deal.

Trafford’s arrival effectively gave both clubs the green light to wrap up negotiations over a loan move for the Brazilian goalkeeper.

However, Marseille’s late entry into the race has complicated matters, with Perri now having another serious offer to consider this summer.

The longer the goalkeeper takes to decide his next move, the longer Leeds’ plans remain on hold. The Whites need to find a back-up for Trafford, and this latest twist has only added another delay to the process.
