Leeds United are in line to face a major transfer disappointment this summer as a top striker target is now set to slip through their hands.
With 43 points in their bag, Leeds are virtually safe in the Premier League, and work is underway for the club to identify top transfer targets for the upcoming transfer window.
Leeds are already in advanced negotiations to finalise their first summer deal. But that may have to wait a bit longer due to rival Premier League interest.
The club are almost certain to sign a striker, but at the moment they are nowhere in the race to sign one of their long-term targets in AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott.
Leeds are missing in the race for Troy Parrott
The Whites were heavily linked with a move to sign Troy Parrott in the winter transfer window. However, the club decided to keep their powder dry for the summer.
He is still expected to leave AZ Alkmaar after scoring 30 goals in all competitions this season, but it seems Leeds are nowhere in the race for him.
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal, newly promoted Coventry City and Ipswich Town are interested in getting their hands on the former Tottenham striker.
His performances in the Netherlands have impressed, and the two clubs believe he has the talent to make the step up in the Premier League this season.
Both clubs are looking to add more goals to their squads, knowing they need greater attacking firepower if they want to stay competitive in the top flight.
For the moment, it doesn’t seem Leeds are going to get involved in the race to sign a striker who has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road for months.
Leeds definitely need a striker
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a success on a free transfer for Leeds, and he has played a major role in putting the club on the verge of Premier League survival.
Leeds also need a striker as Joel Piroe is almost certain to leave the club in the summer, and they would prefer to sign an upgrade rather than a like-for-like replacement.
The club would ideally like to sign someone who can partner Calvert-Lewin up front or potentially replace him if needed.
Parrott has scored goals in the Netherlands, but is unproven in the Premier League. Leeds may not want to gamble big money on a striker who has yet to prove himself in the English top flight.
