Leeds United made their first order of business this summer renewing the contract of Ethan Ampadu. Club chairman Paraag Marathe made it clear that it was a priority.

Both parties quickly agreed to the terms, and Ampadu will now be at Elland Road until 2030.

Other contracts at the club have not gone the Whites’ way so far. First team trio Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram are all free agents after their deals expired last week.

Per reports, Darlow has chosen to join Manchester United, and Byram is on his way to Norwich City.

Cairns looks likely to stay, after verbally agreeing to remain at the club. There has been no official announcement yet.

Adam Pope gives insight on Daniel Farke’s Leeds United contract

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke is out of contract in 2027.

When he spoke about his future in the final weeks of last season, he made it clear that he does want to stay. But he emphasized that the ownership need to show ambition.

Adam Pope believes that if a deal is not agreed before the season starts, there could be problems.

“It has to be done before 22nd of August, before we kick off.” he said on the Don’t Go to Bed Just Yet podcast.

“You are negotiating so many facets.

“At this point of time, recruitment is a major thing.

“You would not want to put your signature to a contract where you feel you are not happy with the recruitment process.

“Everything needs to gradually go on and hence there will be a series of negotiations, which can change over the next few months.

“I won’t be too perturbed if it wasn’t announced beforehand, it’s just that it leaves a vacuum where people start checking like Harry Wilson.”

49ers have to complete this deal

It’s quite clear that the ownership need to wrap this up quickly.

There is already interest from both parties to continue this successful relationship.

The longer Daniel Farke has not signed, the more complications it brings up. Leeds must also do the needful in the transfer window and back the team in the transfer market.

From now till the end of the window, the club must do their best to improve the team.

That will tick one of Farke’s boxes and go a long way to convincing him to extend his stay at Elland Road.
