Leeds United walked away with a point following a 1-1 draw against Tottenham, which kept West Ham’s hopes of survival alive for the time being.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored from the penalty spot following a long VAR check to cancel out Mathy Tel’s 50th-minute strike and helped Leeds earn a point in north London.
Leeds could have won the game at the end if not for the Tottenham goalkeeper, who kept a brilliant Sean Longstaff strike from close range to ensure Spurs got a point.
Several pundits were expecting Leeds to relax tonight after their survival was confirmed on Sunday. However, Daniel Farke’s side didn’t let up on their intensity against Tottenham.
Alan Smith left embarrassed by Leeds after the point against Tottenham
Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith was insistent after Leeds scored that Tottenham should be winning the game, on the balance of chances.
He insisted that if the north London side failed to take all three points, they would be rueing it as they should be beating the Leeds team at home.
However, it was Leeds who came close to a win towards the end, ensuring that their detractors again had to eat their words at full-time in north London.
Smith said on Sky Sports: “I think Spurs should be winning this game here today. Leeds are there to be beaten.
“If Spurs do not win this game, I think they will be kicking themselves. I think, given Leeds are safe, they should be beating them.
“Leeds have not really offered much, and I think Spurs look comfortable. They have let leads slip here in the season, but they look good here today.
“I don’t want to jinx them or anything, but they certainly look the better team, and under De Zerbi, they should be confident.”
The Whites keep West Ham alive
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo issued an appeal to Leeds after his side lost to Arsenal on Sunday, and the Whites responded.
Tottenham moved two points clear of the relegation zone, but they will play London rivals, Chelsea, next, and the Blues would love to dent their chances of survival.
West Ham will next take on an out-of-form Newcastle side, and a win could put them in a great position to survive on the final day of the season.
However, on the last day of the campaign, they may have to beat a Leeds side who showed that they are far from ready to call it a season despite confirming survival.
