Tottenham Hotspur came out of the blocks flying in the first half against Leeds United. They knew what they were playing for especially after the results on Sunday.
West Ham did not get a result against Arsenal, which put a lot of stakes ahead of the game. Roberto De Zerbi’s men were very positive in the first half of the game as they tested Leeds a lot. They had a great chance, which was denied by Karl Darlow. And early in the second half, the home side took the lead as Mathys Tel’s effort went past Darlow. Tel was at fault as he gave away a penalty, which Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored to level the game.
Ex-PGMOL chief gives verdict on penalty incident in Leeds United game
Despite the match ending in a draw, there was a lot of controversy late in the game. James Maddison was brought down in the box after a challenge by Lukas Nmecha. Referee Jarred Gillett did not give the decision on field, and in the subsequent replays, it looked like Nmecha did make contact. VAR eventually went with Gillet’s decision and did not intervene. But other angles also show that the Leeds United striker got a touch on the ball.
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has said that the decision was the right one by the officials.
“Looking closely at replays, the defender has played the ball. The attacker not in possession has gone to ground too easily.” he said, speaking to Football Insider.
“Match officials got this one right.”

Leeds could have gotten a win on Monday night
Leeds United have been on the end of some controversial calls this season, but this time around the decision went their way. The incident and the replays were not conclusive enough to give a penalty. The game ended in a draw, but Daniel Farke’s side could have gotten much more on the night. In the second half, Leeds created more chances, had more shots and forced more saves from Anton Kinsky. The Whites could have easily gotten at least one goal but Kinsky stood in their way. Daniel Farke has done a great job with this team, and their season can be defined as a success considering how the campaign started. Leeds can finish even higher on the Premier League table if they can get results in their last two games.
