Leeds United have now officially survived their first season back in the Premier League. The journey was not a smooth one, but the club has managed to overcome a lot.

The beginning of the campaign was a bit rough, and getting near the middle of the season, things got worse. But Daniel Farke managed to turn the season around late last year. Leeds went on an incredible unbeaten run into the New Year that set them up well in the race for survival. Since then, Farke’s side have slowly managed to keep their heads above water and are now mathematically safe. The Leeds United boss did the most important job this season, getting the team to gel and instilling a winning mentality.

When the club signed 10 new players during the summer window, there were some complaints about the quality. So far, these signings have turned out well and most of them have had a great impact on the team this season.

Leeds United hit with £62m bill after Premier League survival

Guaranteeing another season in the top flight is a good thing for the team and the owners. The club stands to gain money on merit payments based on where they finish, and they get another year of revenue from broadcasting rights.

However, staying in the top flight comes at a cost – around £62 million, according to the club’s finances. Leeds’ recent financial records show that a figure of around £39.4 million has been set aside for bonus payments to players and management after securing Premier League survival. Another £22.7 million is due to other clubs for transfer fees and clauses. FourFourTwo report that around £13 million related to transfers is owed to Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Lille, Newcastle United, Lyon and Leicester City among other clubs.

Top flight survival is beneficial in the long run

Even though the Whites will incur these bills due to getting another season in the Premier League, staying up is a huge financial boost. Clubs get up to £120 million per season before matchday and commercial revenue. This summer will also see Leeds United move some players off the books by selling them or allowing them to leave as free agents. This clears a lot of money off the books and will keep the club afloat going forward. The 49ers’ vision of making the team stable in the top flight will only push the team to become a lucrative outfit in the coming years.
