Leeds United executed their game plan to perfection in their win against Manchester United on Monday night. Daniel Farke’s men got back on track in their fight for survival.

Before the game, the Whites were just three points above the relegation zone after a poor run of form. Leeds had picked up just two points in their last four league games, and were in danger. But after their win on Monday night, they are now six points above Spurs in 18th.

Part of the win was how well Leeds’ midfielders played in the first 45 minutes; Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu completely shut down Michael Carrick’s men. Tanaka especially was the star of the show, as he created four chances while keeping the ball and making things tick in attack. Jamie Carragher praised the Japanese international for his display.

Leeds United star linked with shock exit

Just over a day after the huge win, news has emerged about a potential exit from Elland Road. According to Football Insider, Ao Tanaka will be looking to leave the club this summer, with Coventry City positioned to make a move. Coventry sealed their promotion to the Premier League over the weekend, with Lampard’s side having had a dominant season.

Per the report, it is believed that Leeds United could launch a last-gasp effort to keep Tanaka at the club. The Whites will propose a new contract in order to keep him around.

49ers need to keep Ao Tanaka

Daniel Farke side-lining the Japanese midfielder has been one of the strangest parts of this season. The Japanese international was the star of the show last season, and was one of the best midfielders in the Championship. Unfortunately for him, Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff hit the ground running, and he was moved to the bench.

But Tanaka has recently played himself back into the team. Despite being limited to FA Cup appearances, his last two games have seen him impress a lot – especially in the quarterfinal against West Ham. So When Anton Stach was ruled out for Monday night’s game, it was going to be a battle to see who replaced him. Daniel Farke made the bold decision, and Ao Tanaka delivered – hopefully he keeps his place in the team, as he has earned it. And maybe that run of games could see him choose to stay at the club this summer.
