Leeds United have a verbal agreement in place to sell Pascal Struijk to Brighton after the defender refused to sign a new contract.
With only a year left on his contract, Leeds have been forced to sell him for a knockdown fee of £15m and another £3m in add-ons based on performances and appearances.
Leeds fans are divided on the sale of the centre-back, with some insisting the Whites could have got a better fee for the centre-back had they waited a bit.
However, Leeds have moved on swiftly from Struijk’s impending sale and are now ramping up their efforts to bring his replacement, with a priority target already identified.
Leeds step up pursuit of Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci
Ladislav Krejci has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds this summer, following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League last season.
He was one of the few shining lights of a poor Wolves team last season, and is almost certain to move on from Molineux in the ongoing transfer window.
As per sources speaking exclusively to The Leeds Press, the Wolves defender has emerged as the priority target to replace Struijk at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke wants a naturally left-footed defender who can play out of the back to replace the outgoing Dutchman at Leeds this summer.
Leeds are now ramping up their efforts to sign the Wolves centre-back and will soon open negotiations with Wolves for the Czech Republic captain in the coming days.
With the Czech Republic out of the World Cup, the defender is now keen to sort out his future before pre-season preparations begin next month.
Wolves signed him for a deal worth £26m, and are keen to make a profit from his departure. A bid worth £30m is likely to trigger his exit this summer.
Krejci is seen as the ideal like-for-like replacement for Struijk, who is available within Leeds’ price range.
Leeds must get a deal over the line soon
If Krejci is the defender Leeds want to replace Struijk, they must make a move soon to secure an agreement for his transfer with Wolves.
The centre-back has other suitors in the Premier League, so Leeds must move quickly to ensure that they land their top target in the ongoing window.
Their refusal to meet Shea Charles’ asking price has already led to more competition for the Southampton midfielder’s signature this summer.
Leeds have enough defensive cover to get through pre-season, but signing a replacement for Pascal Struijk would provide a real boost to the mood around the club.
So, Wolves can demand £30m for a player in the same position as Pascal and we get £15m.
Something does not add up here. No I am not best pleased at this piece of business, Pascal is damn good defender and he is being sold for peanuts by comparison.
By my reckoning if Leeds are going after this defender we need to sell at least players for a total of £30m to buy him.
Totally baffled, maths never my strong point at school but even I can see Leeds are being rinsed. Yes I know this will be pure profit for Leeds but that is not the point.
PS has long been one of my favourite Leeds players, and I agree, the maths don’t stack up … however, I respect his decision and we have to trust the Club’s negotiating team who, overall, did remarkably well last season to bring in the likes of Bijol, Stach and Okafor etc. at reasonable prices. Maybe, just maybe, DF wants him gone out of the way before any incoming signings.
All we can do MOT is to wish Pascal ‘good luck’ except in our games v B&HA.
Pascal were a liability
Said himself he thought he’d be at a bigger club than leeds at this stage of his career
Good luck with that!!!!
Should of been at least £25m or dont sell.
Arronsen nxt
Id snap anyone’s hand off at £15m for him
