Last summer, Leeds United had some problems attracting big name transfer targets. Even though the Whites spent over £100 million and brought in 10 new players, they missed out on major names.

Players like Rodrigo Muniz, Bilal El Khannouss and Harry Wilson were some of the big names the club failed to sign. The recruitment still managed to get players tailor made for the first team. The likes of Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been the best players at Elland Road this season.

With another season in the Premier League on the horizon, one would assume the 49ers will now have the advantage to attract big names.

Leeds target open to summer exit

Heading into this summer, Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move for James Trafford. The Manchester City goalkeeper has been a target for the Whites since he was at Burnley last season. He joined Pep Guardiola’s side last summer, but things have not gone great.

City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma immediately became first choice, with Trafford sidelined to cup competitions. The keeper has still performed to a high level, as he starred in the EFL Cup win against Arsenal. And according to Florian Plettenburg, the 23-year old is very open to a summer exit. He feels like he should be getting more playing time as his career develops, and there are multiple clubs lined up for him, including Brighton.

James Trafford made it known that his future is unclear at Manchester City, speaking in a post-match interview in the FA Cup over a month ago.

James Trafford would solve the club’s goalkeeping problems

Leeds might have secured their future in the Premier League this week, which will hand them the advantage going into the summer. If James Trafford wants a club with guaranteed playing time, Elland Road should be his destination. The Whites are set to lose three first team goalkeepers when their contracts expire in the coming months.

Trafford would immediately become the club’s number one as his quality is undeniable. He made his England debut recently, showing the level he is capable of. And at his young age, the club would be making a long-term investment in the number one position. If the 49ers can land the Manchester City star, that could be the coup of the summer.
