Leeds United managed to take a step towards safety on Wednesday night after picking up a draw against Bournemouth. Andoni Iraola’s men were on a 13-game run heading into the game.

Daniel Farke’s men have now reached the 40-point mark and there is a lot of confidence that they have clinched another season in the top flight. The draw against the Cherries also gives the team confidence heading into the FA Cup semi-final. The Whites face Chelsea at Wembley, and their opponents are in a tight spot after firing Liam Rosenior. The Blues will have interim manager Calum McFarlane in the dugout when they face Leeds United this weekend.

Leeds star ruled out of the season

Leeds were able to get their point on Wednesday night, but the news after the result was not great. Daniel Farke has confirmed that Ilia Gruev, who missed out on the matchday squad, is out for the season.

“Bad news with Ilia Gruev, out for the whole season so he won’t be able to help us, expect to have him back for pre-season but he won’t feature this season anymore, Jayden Bogle got a hit against his foot. We have to see how he recovers, I hope he is available, Bornauw rolled his ankle, pretty sore but I hope to have him back in training tomorrow.”

The bad news continues after Jayden Bogle also picked up a knock and had to be taken off at half time. Sebastiaan Bornauw also rolled his ankle and had a problem when asked to warm up at half time on Wednesday night.

Bad news for Daniel Farke

Losing players at this point of the season will always be a huge blow. And ahead of the FA Cup semi-final, this will cause some problems when it comes to the team selection; there was a reason why some fans were not pleased that Leeds went full strength on Wednesday night. Bornauw and Gruev were key pieces that could come off the bench and perform when needed – both have proved this to Daniel Farke this season. Jayden Bogle will also be a huge miss, as he has been a vital part of this team. When he went off against Bournemouth, the team looked very disjointed down the right flank. Farke will hope that no more players pick up injuries as the club approach the end of the season.
