Leeds United took a major step towards securing Premier League safety with the 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

A win over Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday could more or less seal Premier League survival and allow the club to move forward with their transfer plans for the summer.

Leeds have been drawing up a shortlist of targets as they look to take the squad to the next level with the addition of key players for certain areas of their squad.

The Whites remain keen to add to their midfield options if they remain in the Premier League, and the club have received a major boost in their pursuit of a top target.

Leeds United target Djaoui Cisse is feeling unsettled at Rennes

The Whites have been keeping tabs on several midfielders ahead of the summer, with Hayden Hackney considered to be one of their top targets.

However, Leeds have other options on their table, and Rennes midfielder Djaoui Cisse has emerged as one of the players the club are looking at.

A move for Cisse could also be easier to get done, with French outlet Foot Sur 7 reporting that the midfielder is feeling unsettled at Rennes ahead of the summer window.

Rennes are worried about losing the midfielder, and Bayer Leverkusen have already made an offer of £17.4m to take him to Germany in the coming months.

Cisse is unhappy at Rennes, where he hasn’t started in the last eight games and has seen his playing time limited since Franck Haise’s arrival.

The lack of game time is fuelling his desire to leave despite recently signing a new contract until 2030.

His family and associates are also advocating for a transfer, and this could be Leeds’ cue to table a competing offer for him ahead of the summer.

Who will make way for a midfielder?

Leeds seem committed to bringing in a midfielder. However, midfield is one of the areas of the squad where they have numbers.

Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach seem to be undroppable, and Brenden Aaronson has won over fans with his performance in the ongoing season.

However, in Stach’s absence, Ao Tanaka came into the team against Manchester United and showed why he deserved more opportunities earlier in the season.

For the moment, Ilia Gruev and Sean Longstaff seem out of favour and some way away from making a start in the final six Premier League games of the season.

One of them may have to leave if Leeds have to sign one more midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.
