Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior is under immense pressure after his side were hammered 3-0 at Brighton on Tuesday night, and his patience has snapped.
Rosenior is feeling the heat ahead of the FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United on Sunday. However, his team looked short on confidence and will surprisingly go into Wembley as the underdogs.
They have lost their last five Premier League games without scoring a goal, their worst run in the league in 114 years and the Chelsea boss has run out of patience with his players.
He snapped after the defeat against Brighton and has come out against his players following a run of form that has pushed Chelsea out of the top six.
Liam Rosenior has taken his shots at the Chelsea players
Ahead of the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, Chelsea are under intense pressure and Rosenior might have lit a fuse in an already combustible situation.
He has aimed at his Chelsea players for not doing the basics, lacking pride and producing an unacceptable performance against Brighton on Tuesday night.
The Chelsea boss hammered them for lacking courage and commitment and stressed that they won’t win games if they continue to be this cowardly on the pitch.
Rosenior told reporters after the game: “In the basics, in the pride that you should have in wearing the shirt, that was unacceptable. I’ve defended the players, and I am accountable. I’ve always said that.
“After tonight, I think the players as well need to have a look in the mirror for what they put in. You can talk about tactics; tactics come after the basics. Having more courage to play, winning duels, winning headers, tackles, and conceding terrible goals.
“That was an unacceptable performance tonight.
“I saw it [commitment] against Manchester United three days ago. That’s what disappointed me the most. We lost the game, but the performance was very, very good.
“Today was the complete opposite in every aspect. That’s the hardest thing for me to take right now. It’s very soon after the game. I’m an emotional person. That’s just unacceptable. The word is unacceptable. We lost 80% of duels. We didn’t win a header. Two of the goals come when we can head the ball, the basics of football, and we don’t.
“At any level, if you make those errors and lack engagement in the game, you’re not going to win games of football.”
Leeds will be licking their lips
The Chelsea fans vocally turned on Rosenior at Brighton, and the manager has now turned on his players ahead of a big game at Wembley against Chelsea.
If Leeds were not fancying themselves against Chelsea before Tuesday night, they will definitely feel far more confident ahead of the big game on Sunday.
Chelsea are struggling with form and injuries, and now, there seems to be a major disconnect between the players and the manager.
The Blues are in turmoil, and it will now be a major surprise if Leeds do not beat Chelsea on Sunday and reach the FA Cup semi-final.
