Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim makes shocking claim after Elland Road draw – ‘We controlled Leeds….’

Leeds United extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven matches with a resilient 1–1 draw against rivals Manchester United at Elland Road.

The Whites added another crucial point in their bid for survival, sharing the spoils in West Yorkshire after a fiercely contested encounter. Brenden Aaronson put Leeds in front shortly after the restart, sparking hopes of a rare derby victory.

Those hopes were short-lived, however, as Matheus Cunha struck back within minutes to bring Manchester United level.

Even so, it was another encouraging result against high-calibre opposition, allowing Leeds to further widen the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Manchester United manager makes a shocking claim about the Leeds result

Ruben Amorim is under pressure, and should probably be happy that his team managed to walk away with a point from Elland Road amid an injury crisis.

However, the Manchester United manager believes his team controlled Leeds and the game, and should have won the game in the grand scheme of things.

He stressed that his team are making small mistakes that is not allowing them to win. However, the Portuguese coach is pleased with the control they had over Leeds.

Amorim said on TNT Sports: “I think we played well. I think we had more control in this game than we showed against Wolves. That is important because it shows how you can prepare for this week with the mistakes that we learned from the last game.

“We controlled Leeds, on the set pieces, the second balls, they are really quick up front. We controlled it well.

“We had our opportunities to win the game. We are losing games on the details – the Leeds goal, we are controlling the game and then one kick of the ball in transition, but we managed to get back into the game.

“Last year, it would have been completely different. This year, we are more in control of the games than we were last year, but we are frustrated not to win.”

Amorim cannot be more wrong

Leeds should done better to keep Manchester United at bay for longer after scoring the first goal. However, the Whites had the better chances.

Manchester United had attempts, but Leeds looked the more threatening team and were putting the visitors under pressure towards the end.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit the post in the first half, and some better decision-making could have seen the Whites score more than one goal at Elland Road.

Manchester United defended well and worked hard for their point. However, at no point did they seem in complete control of the game as Amorim claimed.
