Leeds United surprised several teams with their tenacity and grit last season in the Premier League, on their way to finishing 14th in the final table.

Established Premier League sides were often caught off guard by the intensity and energy Leeds brought to games, and Daniel Farke’s tactical switch midway through the season only made the team even more difficult to break down and beat.

The win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in April was the highlight of the campaign as it ended a four-decade wait for a victory at the famous stadium in a league game.

However, the 1-1 draw at Elland Road in early January generated a different kind of headlines as Ruben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United the next day.

Ruben Amorim is the leading candidate to become the next AC Milan manager

Manchester United recovered under Michael Carrick in the latter half of the season and finished third in the Premier League standings.

Under Amorim, the Red Devils finished 15th in the 2024/25 season and were struggling to generate any momentum last term before he was sacked.

However, the Portuguese could soon return to management as he is now a top candidate to become the next AC Milan manager.

According to The Athletic, the Rossoneri are in talks to appoint the former Manchester United boss as their new head coach ahead of next season.

He is now the frontrunner to take up the job as AC Milan look to get over the disappointment of finishing fifth in Serie A, 17 points behind champions Inter.

They have been left impressed following talks with the Portuguese and are now pushing to appoint him as their new manager in the coming days.

Amorim is also prepared to get a fresh start at a big club after his disappointing end at Manchester United earlier this year.

Leeds fans could still chuckle at him

His meltdown in the post-match press conference after the Leeds game, when he appeared to attack the Manchester United hierarchy and wrote his own dismissal letter.

However, it is easy to forget that Ruben Amorim, somewhat under delusion, claimed that Manchester United controlled the game at Elland Road.

He said several sackable things after the game at Elland Road, but this was genuinely delusional as Leeds were clearly the better side against the Red Devils.

A Manchester United manager lost his head at Elland Road, and this is something Leeds fans could derive fun from for years, apart from the win at Old Trafford later in the season.
