Manchester United boss Michael Carrick was furious after his side lost to Leeds United on Monday night. Daniel Farke’s side marched to Old Trafford with a plan and got their result.

Leeds needed a result in their relegation battle, especially after West Ham and Nottingham Forest both got crucial points on the board. And as the last team to play this weekend, the pressure was on. But the Whites had a dominant first half performance which propelled them to a win – a brace from Noah Okafor was enough to seal all three points.

After the game, Carrick blamed the ”shocking” refereeing for the result; including the red card for Lisandro Martinez in the second half.

“It was a shocking, shocking decision to send Licha off, two games in a row where we’ve had decisions like that go against us, but that was one of the worst I’ve seen.

“You can elbow Yoro in the head, and you can have your arm in Licha’s face, and because he’s off balance, he touches the back of his hair, which pulls the bobble out.

“It’s not aggressive, he touches it and gets sent off, it’s shocking.”

Manchester United to appeal Lisandro Martinez’s red card against Leeds United

As of Tuesday afternoon, James Duck of the Telegraph has reported that Manchester United are preparing to lodge an appeal against Lisandro Martinez’s red card. The defender was sent off following a tussle with Dominic Calvert-Lewin near the halfway line. Both players had a hold of each other, but Martinez grabbed the striker’s hair and he went down.

Referee Paul Tierney initially gave a yellow as he felt Calvert-Lewin was fouled in transition before he got to the ball. But a VAR review clearly showed that Martinez grabbed the striker’s hair, and the card was changed. The defender was given his marching orders in the 56th and Manchester United went on to lose the game.

The club need to take Roy Keane’s advice

After the game, Roy Keane was clear on the red card, saying it was an offence against the rules. Martinez was rightly sent off, and Michael Carrick is basically making a meal of it because his team was embarrassed. On Monday night, Manchester United were second best for large parts of the game. Daniel Farke got his tactics spot on and this frustrated the home side for most of the night. If the Red Devils want to save themselves from embarrassment, they will not appeal the red card decision.
