Tottenham ‘nowhere near’ the level of Leeds United, says Gary Neville

Leeds United pulled six points clear of Tottenham in the relegation zone following a momentous 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

It was Leeds’ first league win away at Manchester United in more than 45 years, and it helped them take a giant step towards securing Premier League football for one more season.

The result also piled on the misery on Tottenham, who lost at Sunderland on Saturday, and saw West Ham and Nottingham Forest also pick up points this weekend.

Leeds’ win at Old Trafford is being seen as a key moment as it opened up a six-point gap with Tottenham ahead of games against Wolves and Burnley at home.

Gary Neville highlighted the difference between Leeds United and Tottenham

Leeds outclassed Manchester United today in the first half, and could have scored more than two had they been a bit more efficient inside the box.

Gary Neville has raved about the first-half performance from Leeds and feels that it showed the difference between them and Tottenham.

He insisted Tottenham cannot produce such a show at this stage of the season, and Leeds’ performance levels should be the scarier factor for Spurs, ahead of the last six games of the campaign.

Neville said on his podcast for Sky Sports: “In the first half, they were absolutely wonderful.

“That is a performance I don’t think Tottenham are capable of, and that’s the scary thing for Tottenham.

“Not the six points by the way that Leeds have gone clear of them tonight, but the actual performance level they put in.

“Tottenham are nowhere near that.”

The Whites are within touching distance of safety

That win at Old Trafford could be massive for more than just confidence, as it also stretched the gap between Leeds and Tottenham.

With only six games remaining and Spurs still without a league win this year, that advantage suddenly looks pretty comfortable.

Leeds also have a favourable run-in against Wolves, Burnley and Tottenham, making it difficult to see them dropping into the bottom three.

They’ve also got an FA Cup semi-final on the horizon against a Chelsea side that has struggled against them this season, which only adds to the optimism.

Realistically, one more win should be enough to all but secure safety, and on current form, you’d expect them to get it.
