Even before this season began, many tipped Leeds United to have a great season. From keeping the core of the team, and seeing their transfer window, many have been convinced

The only key player the Whites lost this past summer was Pascal Struijk, who joined Brighton. But he was replaced with Tarik Muharemovic who is quietly proving to be one of the best signings this season.

Adding James Trafford and Harry Wilson to a side that finished 14th rightfully raised expectations.

And the start to this season has shown exactly that.

The Whites sit just outside the top four with 10 points from seven games so far. Their only defeat has come at the hands of Premier League champions Arsenal.

Some pundits have tipped Leeds United to make a charge for European football.

Simon Jordan has been one who has backed the club to achieve something this season. In a recent show on talkSPORT, he backed Daniel Farke’s side once again.

He believes that with most teams focused on Europe, the door is open for the Whites.

”I think if they are able to keep their best players fit then they have an opportunity to be challenging because we have a league this year.

”There’s a league this year that has got a variety of challenges amongst it. You’ve got teams competing in Europe, you’ve got Aston Villa looking not like themselves. So you’ve got opportunities there. A lot of the teams around who would be perceived as being sides that are going to get inside the top six being a little bit at sea.

”So you’ve got an opening of the door, and why shouldn’t Leeds walk through it?”

Jordan also made it clear to the ownership that they need to punch above their level as Leeds are a big club.

”I look at their ownership and I don’t think the ownership has made great strides at rangers.”

”They getting their act together a little bit there, and I thought that their ownership would make better fist of what they did, Rangers by making better decisions.

”But they clearly understand in the same way that Wes Edens and Aston Villa understand it, but they’re getting hampered by PSR, that Leeds are a big, big football club and they should be punching heavy and hard.”

This season is crucial for the 49ers

No one can understate the importance of this year for the ownership.

It is their second season in the top flight and they went hard in the transfer market.

The results of this campaign will direct their course going forward,

Obviously survival is the goal to establish themselves as a consistent presence in the top flight. But whether Leeds can come close to Europe or a domestic trophy will be a huge step in the right direction for the 49ers.
