Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored an injury-time winner to ensure a 1-0 victory for Leeds United over Brighton at Elland Road earlier today.
In the final home game of the season, Leeds ensured that the fans left Elland Road with a smile on their face following Calvert-Lewin’s late show to steal all three points.
Karl Darlow made a stupendous save in the first half, which left even Peter Schmeichel stunned. But the mood turned sour after Anton Stach was stretchered off in the second half following a leg injury.
Calvert-Lewin’s 14th Premier League goal of the season helped the Leeds supporters to get over that feeling. However, Roy Keane was left unimpressed by Brighton at Elland Road.
Roy Keane slams Brighton for their attitude against Leeds
Brighton were chasing potential Champions League football ahead of the game, and are still in with a chance of playing in Europe next season.
Keane has insisted that Leeds were always going to try to ensure that they finish the home season on a high. However, he was surprised by what he saw from Brighton.
He felt that Brighton were under the impression that they would outplay Leeds, which was never going to happen, and stressed that the away side needed to do more to take the initiative.
“Obviously, Leeds are the home team, they have had an eventful season, and they want to finish on a high”, Keane said on Sky Sports.
“But Brighton needed to take the initiative, you look at the options off the bench.
“If they want to try to get in the Champions League, with Manchester United at home next week, they have to go for it.
“When you go to Leeds, the idea that you can just turn up and outplay Leeds and be nice and tidy? Leeds were always going to make it hard for them.
“They had to mix it up better, they had to show more quality in the final third, and really go for it.
“But huge credit to Leeds, they made it very hard for them.”
Leeds could finish even higher in the table
The win at Elland Road took Leeds ot 13th in the table with a game left in the season. However, they could finish even higher.
West Ham would be fighting for their lives on the final day of the season, and Leeds could potentially relegate the Hammers in the capital.
However, a win for Leeds could mean that the Whites could finish as high as 11th in the table if other results go their way.
No one would have predicted Leeds to finish just outside the top half of the Premier League table when they got promoted last season.
