£10m Leeds United star emerges as shock target for Chelsea

Leeds United are facing a real threat of losing Gabriel Gudmundsson, who emerged as one of the top wing-backs in the Premier League last season.

Gudmundsson joined Leeds last summer and wasted little time in emerging as one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheets in the 2025/26 campaign.

He is currently with the Sweden World Cup squad and has started the first two group games despite not being in peak physical condition due to injuries and illness.

However, Leeds are now facing the real threat of losing one of their most important players due to interest from one of the Premier League heavyweights this summer.

Chelsea want to sign Gabriel Gudmundsson

Marc Cucurella left Chelsea to join Real Madrid this summer, and new Blues boss Xabi Alonso wants to bring in an adequate replacement in the coming weeks.

According to Swedish daily Expressen, Chelsea are interested in snaring Gabriel Gudmundsson away from Leeds in the ongoing transfer window.

Alonso wants to bring in a left-back or wing-back who can play in a 3-4-3 formation, which the new Chelsea boss favours.

Gudmundsson has emerged as one of the top targets after an impressive first season at Leeds, and Chelsea are seriously considering signing him.

He proved last season that he can excel in the left wing-back role, and that has turned heads in Chelsea’s recruitment team this summer.

Leeds signed him for a deal worth £10m last summer and could make a huge profit if they agree to sell him in the ongoing transfer window.

However, Daniel Farke does not want to lose his best players and will resist selling the Swede in the coming weeks and months.

It would take a mammoth bid for the 49ers to even consider selling a player who emerged as one of the most important names in the squad last season.

Leeds cannot afford to lose him

The recruitment team at Elland Road deserve huge credit for identifying Gudmundsson and signing him for a fee that now seems like a massive bargain.

However, Chelsea’s interest in him is a problem as they can not only offer a big fee for the Swede but also pay wages that can turn anyone’s head.

Leeds must resist selling him, as it will be incredibly hard for the club to find a replacement of adequate quality within the club’s transfer budget.

Farke must convince Gudmundsson to stay and continue at Leeds rather than get dazzled by the interest and money on offer from Chelsea.

If they want him it would need to be 200million at least

You let him go, then say bye to many fans/supporters too, even if they offer £100m you cant replace him, sell the deadwood and move on, and plenty of links but no signings?

This is pure speculation copied from, another journalist who claims that Chelsea have discussed Gudmunsson. No contact has been made to either Leeds or the player.
