The first major business concluded by Leeds United this summer was signing Ethan Ampadu to a new contract. Coming off a successful season, the Whites knew they had a lot of things on their plate.
Daniel Farke’s side managed to clinch another season of Premier League football.
Now the hard work starts, the 49ers need to push this project towards a successful future, and extending Ethan Ampadu was key to that. Following the news, many around the club expected more renewals.
One of the major ones being Daniel Farke; the Leeds boss will hold talks with the ownership this summer.
His current deal at Elland Road expires in 2027, and all parties are keen to continue their successful relationship.
Leeds United goalkeeper signs new contract
Leeds United had a few contracts set to expire this summer, and it was a coincidence that most of them were the goalkeepers.
Illan Meslier, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow will have their current deals expiring by next week.
But the club have already announced that Meslier will be leaving as he has not been offered a new deal. Both Darlow and Cairns were offered new contracts.
As of this week, Beren Cross has confirmed that Alex Cairns and Leeds United have reached a verbal agreement over a new deal. The veteran keeper will sign a two-year deal and remain at Elland Road beyond this season.

Why the Whites gave Alex Cairns a new deal
Some fans may be wondering why Alex Cairns was given a new contract.
Beren Cross’ update revealed that he is a valuable experienced head in the dressing room, and is admired by the players. His home grown status is also very important when it comes to Premier League registration rules.
Overall, his presence as the third keeper will not disrupt the hierarchy at the club as he is happy to occupy that role.
And ultimately, due to the uncertainty around the first team options going into next season, having Cairns fill one of the squad roles was important. Letting him leave would have not made any sense.
As it stands, the 49ers now have less pressure to sort out the goalkeeping situation at Elland Road.
Lucas Perri remains under contract, but with the revelation that he did receive a transfer offer in January, nothing is permanent. Everything now depends on Karl Darlow and his decision this summer.
