Leeds United thought they had solved their goalkeeping problems last summer when they signed Lucas Perri. The Brazilian came in with a huge price tag and high expectations.
His first few months were shaky, but he did okay.
Perri’s season was interrupted by an injury problem which saw Karl Darlow step into goal. The veteran also played a similar role last year as he filled in for Illan Meslier in the promotion run in.
Darlow ended up taking the first choice role after Perri made a series of errors.
He ended the season as number one, and Leeds survived relegation. But since then, the Welshman is yet to decide on his future; his contract has expired, but the club have an offer on the table for him.
England star makes transfer decision amid Leeds United interest
As things stand, Leeds United have only Lucas Perri under contract. Alex Cairns has agreed to star, but it has not been officially confirmed.
This would explain the multiple reports emerging from Elland Road.
Leeds are eyeing a new keeper ahead of next season, with Karl Darlow’s future seemingly uncertain. Illan Meslier has also left the club as the 49ers opted against giving him a new deal
James Trafford has been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.
The Manchester City keeper is said to be open to leaving. Chronicle Live have now given an update on the England star’s situation as the window progresses.
Trafford is said to be keen on a move to Newcastle United. However, the keeper will have to speak with new City boss Enzo Maresca to see what his role is going into next season.
The 23-year old spent last season as second choice behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

What next for the Whites?
Finding a new goalkeeper this summer should be a priority for Leeds.
As at now, the club are very unsure of Karl Darlow’s future. If he does decide to sign a new deal and stays, that is a positive, but him leaving will dramatically alter any transfer plans.
Daniel Farke is clearly not fully convinced about Lucas Perri seeing how last season ended.
The Whites may be forced to dip into the market to find a first choice goalkeeper regardless of what happens. Darlow is 35 and will not be a regular much longer, making a new younger option a priority.
