5 players who could leave Leeds in January

After the summer transfer window closed, Leeds United club chief Robbie Evans spoke about potential plans for January. He also covered issues that happened before the transfer deadline.

During that interview, Evans’ most telling admission was that the club was satisfied with their transfer business.

Leeds spent a lot of money on goalkeepers, and added quality depth to the backline. But there were no major additions in midfield and the club failed to sign a striker.

Robbie Evans also said that the January widow will only be a option in the case of emergecy.

If there is a significant injury ad the need to add a player in the position, the the club will look to the winter market.

Five players who could leave Leeds United in January

There is no word on the clubs finances after the summer, or if they would have enough resources to be active in January.

But Leeds United have show that they ca be resourceful when it comes to transfers. I the last January widow, the club was ready to pay over £30 million to recruit a striker; eventually missing out o Jorge Strad Larsen.

There are a few players in the first team squad that could provide the perfect opportunity for the team to make some funds if the Whites want to dip into the market.

Sean Longstaff

There were rumours that the former Newcastle United midfielder was close to leaving this summer.

He was one of the big signings last year when the club was promoted. Longstaff has since lost his place in the team, and is now lower down the pecking order than he would like.

A January move could benefit both parties.

Dan James

James is another player who has failed to hit the heights over the last year.

The winger was one of the clubs most important contributors during the promotion campaign. But since Leeds came to the top flight, he has not been himself – zero goals and assists last season.

He remains on a long-term contract, and selling him could move wages off the books.

Ilia Gruev

The midfielder recently returned from a long layoff.

Initially not expected to have a big role on the team, he stepped up last season and did well. However, he remains one of the only players to not have been given a contract extension this summer.

The club could make a decent fee selling him in January instead of losing him for free; which would eventually happen.

Lukas Nmecha

Another player whose contract runs out next summer.

Nmecha has been a very valuable squad piece; and has contributed key goals since his arrival. Wrexham were interested this summer, but he eventually stayed. The striker could be an option to sell when January comes around.

Mateo Joseph

Many have forgotten about the Leeds forward over the last few months.

His injury ended his loan spell in Spain, and Joseph has been recovering since. Daniel Farke says the Spain U21 youngster is not in his plans, and with the player’s potential, the club could get a nice fee from a move in January.

Mateo Joseph would have been fully recovered from his injury by then.
