Daniel Farke found his Leeds United backline midway through the season after switching to a back three. The campaign looked to be slipping away until the German made some changes.
His tinkering stumbled upon a system that brought the best out of the team.
After finding some rhythm, the Whites went on a long unbeaten run into the new year. And a lot of that was thanks to the solidity at the back; with Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk all impressing.
The switch made Leeds more solid and the team were able to scrap results built on that foundation.
Farke ended up guiding the Whites to a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League, securing another season of football.
Leeds United in negotiations with transfer target
Leeds United were dealt a huge blow over a week ago when Brighton signed Pascal Struijk.
The defender was a standout performer this past season, and was up for a new deal. But per sources, he wanted something different and chose to join rivals Brighton.
Now the Whites have a big hole at the back to fill going into next season.
Per Italian journalist Marco Conteiro, Leeds are set to do just that. The club are in negotiations with Tarik Muharemovic over a move. The Bosnian center half will cost around £34 million.
Juventus have a sell-on clause for the 23-year old and will pocket a percentage of the transfer fee.
Muharemovic was at the World Cup with Bosnia, and has represented his country 17 times. The defender played 33 games in all competitions for Sassuolo last season, and chipped in with two goals.

Whites may end up signing another centerback in this window
A deal for Muharemovic will not be the end; per reports, Leeds could sell another centerback this summer.
It is likely to be one of Max Wober or Sebastiaan Bornauw; two players who are down the pecking order under Farke. Bornauw would be the more likely of the two considering he already had interest in January.
The 49ers could then add another center back to beef up the depth in the position.
Going into preseason, the Whites have just four senior centerbacks with Rodon, Bijol, Bornauw and Wober, with the latter not in Farke’s plans ahead of the trip to the US.
Bringing in two defenders before next season is something the club should prioritize.
