Daniel Farke will have been delighted with the character his Leeds United side showed as they fought back from two goals down to claim an impressive 4-2 victory over Liverpool at Soldier Field on Sunday.

The Whites looked second best before the interval, with Liverpool taking full advantage through Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz to establish a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time.

Leeds, however, were transformed after the break. Farke’s changes had the desired effect as the Whites played with far greater purpose and aggression, producing a superb comeback. Brenden Aaronson, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sean Longstaff all found the net as Leeds overwhelmed Liverpool in an eye-catching second-half display.

The result will give Farke plenty of confidence ahead of the new campaign. With more arrivals expected before the transfer window closes, there is a growing belief that Leeds are heading into the 2026/27 season with real momentum.

Robbie Fowler reacts to Leeds United beating Liverpool

Fowler believes Liverpool’s overall pre-season performances have been good. However, he conceded that he was left stunned by the second-half performance against Leeds.

He did not see the Whites coming back and beating Liverpool convincingly at Soldier Field, and conceded that it ruined his trip to Chicago this summer.

The former Leeds and Liverpool striker was surprised to see the Whites overpower the Reds and feels the fans of the Merseyside giants won’t forget this result very soon.

Fowler said on LFC TV: “I mean the trip over here to Chicago has been really good, hasn’t it? The players have looked sharp, and it was two positive performances before this one.

“I thought Liverpool were very good in the first half. And then the second half really came from nowhere, didn’t it?

“I did not see that coming. That’s ruined my trip. It has been a great tour, but the Liverpool fans at home will be watching this, and I think that second half is what they will remember this tour for.

“Leeds got the momentum when Liverpool came out slow, and they never let go. They just wrestled the game away from Liverpool. We didn’t look like scoring.

“I know there are some young centre-backs in there, but Leeds physically overpowered us for some of those goals.

“I know it may seem harsh, but Liverpool fans will remember that game most from the tour. They’ll remember that game and getting hammered in the second half.”

Leeds United look good to improve from last season

Daniel Farke’s side have shown plenty of encouraging signs during pre-season, despite still being without several new arrivals the club hope to bring in before the transfer window closes.

At present, Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic are the only summer signings available to Farke, but Leeds are continuing to push for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford. The Whites are also looking to add a striker, an attacking midfielder and cover at left-back.

With further reinforcements expected in the coming weeks, there is every reason to believe this Leeds squad will become even stronger.

If the club can complete the business they have planned, Farke should have a solid platform to build on last season’s 14th-place finish and take another step forward in the Premier League.
