Leeds United have hit the 40-point mark in the Premier League and, while they’re not mathematically safe yet, it would take a significant drop-off for them to get pulled back into trouble.
With survival virtually wrapped up, attention is already shifting towards the summer, when the club is expected to be active in the transfer market.
Leeds are planning to strengthen in several areas, with the focus on adding real quality and upgrading certain positions in the squad.
However, the Whites will have to decide on several players whose future at the club is uncertain going into the summer window, and Joel Piroe is one such star.
Ally McCoist wants Joel Piroe at Rangers
Joel Piroe was linked with a move away from Leeds in the winter window. However, he decided against considering offers to leave Elland Road in the middle of the season.
But he is almost certain to move on from Leeds in the summer, and Rangers are amongst the clubs who are interested in signing the Surinam international.
Rangers legend Ally McCoist feels the forward would be a great signing for the Scottish giants if they could convince him to move to Ibrox in the next window.
He conceded that while Piroe has struggled in the Premier League, he has done enough for him to feel as a Rangers fans that he would be a top signing at Ibrox.
Speaking to talkSPORT Bet Casino, McCoist said: “Joel Piroe would be a great signing for Rangers.
“He probably hasn’t done as well as you’d have hoped in the Premier League, but I’ve seen enough of him.
“As a Rangers supporter, I wouldn’t mind that at all. I think he could certainly do a job up here. I think he’d adapt to this football as well.”
He is certain to leave in the summer
Leeds are likely to be in the market for a striker this summer, with Joel Piroe expected to move on in search of more regular game time.
The Dutchman finished as the Championship’s top scorer last season, but has slipped down the pecking order this term and now finds himself on the fringes at Elland Road.
The club were willing to let him go in January, but he turned down the offers that came in. A summer exit now looks far more likely, with Piroe open to a fresh start.
Daniel Farke hasn’t shown much faith in him this season, using him largely as a substitute in the Premier League.
