The conversation around Harry Gray has resurfaced during the international break. Now, there is the discussion that the striker could be ‘left behind’ as Leeds United become a real Premier League side.

The 49ers have a lot of ambitions to make the team a regular in the top flight going forward.

Leeds have spent a lot of money on transfers in their last two seasons. Improving upon the quality in the squad is what will take the team to the next level.

When the whites brought in 10 new signings last year, the results improved the team. The likes of Anton Stach, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol injected real quality that helped them finish in 14th place.

In all Leeds United’s success in the last year, Harry Gray has not been a real part of it.

He started last season training with the first team, but did not play a single game. He was loaned out to Rotherham, and scored a few goals on loan. This summer saw him join Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

Questions have bee asked if Leeds will get to a level that will be difficult for Gray to fit in in the near future.

Adam Pope addressed the striker’s development o the Don’t Go To Bed Yet podcast: “Yes, I have seen this before.

“Players have been brought in at a certain stage of a club’s evolution, and it’s almost immeasurable the leap from being good in the Championship to just trying to stay in the Premier League.

“I understand the fear [that Harry Gray will not keep up with Leeds United’s evolution].

“But if he has got the talent and the drive, which Harry has, I think there is every possibility that he comes back and be part of Leeds United going forward.”

Leeds are planning towards a future with Harry Gray

Gray is a player everyone at Elland Road is keen on seeing as a first team player in the near future.

He will follow in the footsteps of his brother Archie, who also had a quick rise to play in the first team. The club have handled his development well, loaning him out very early to gain experience.

Two seasons of first team football should be enough to get him on the right track.

Leeds choosing not to sign a new striker in the summer could be the plan moving forward. Lukas Nmecha is out of contract next summer which could mean Gray gets a spot in the first team.

For now, the striker is making progress away from Elland Road.
