Bizarre Daniel Farke transfer blunder comes back to bite Leeds United – it could have saved them millions

Leeds United signed 10 new players during the summer transfer window. Fans were initially excited when the recruitment started, but feelings soured near the end of the window.

The club started signing players from the defence to the midfield and left it late in the summer before they started to attempt to sign attacking players. Delaying moves saw them miss out on names like Rodrigo Muniz, Harry Wilson and Facundo Buonanotte.

Past the halfway mark of the season, now fans can critique how the money was spent during the window. Players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach have been excellent while signings like Noah Okafor and Sebastiaan Bornauw are yet to make an impact.

Speaking of Bornauw, the defender only got his chance in the first team recently when Joe Rodon went down with an injury. The Belgian had impressive outings against Manchester United and Liverpool, but has since returned to the bench.

Former Leeds United man Charlie Cresswell set for January move

Per reports from Germany, Wolfsburg have backed off a move for Leeds United target Danilho Doekhi this month. They have rather focused their attention on Thorp Arch graduate Charlie Cresswell. Florian Plettenburg has confirmed that the Bundesliga side are set to launch a move to sign the Toulouse defender.

Doekhi is still a target for the Whites, but the club will not budge on their stance on a lower transfer fee for the defender whose contract expires this summer.

Leeds are still looking for cover at center back, considering the fact that Sebastiaan Bornauw could possibly leave. Joe Rodon going down a few games back showed just how thin the depth at the position was.

Cresswell’s exit from Elland Road has aged poorly

After a successful spell at Millwall in the Championship, Charlie Cresswell came back to Elland Road fully prepared to feature throughout the season. Unfortunately for him, Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk had formed a partnership that Farke was not ready to put either on the bench.

It is understandable because he was young and not fully ready to play in the first team. But Farke and Leeds handled his exit poorly; the player left on bad terms with the club.

Now, he has gone on to become one of the best young defenders in Europe sought by many big clubs. The past few seasons have seen the Whites struggle to get a reliable center back to challenge Rodon and Struijk while providing depth for the team. If the club had handled the Cresswell situation well, he might have stayed and would be playing a key part in this campaign.
