Leeds United have just nine goals in seven league games this season, but they still pull off results. Former Sunderland star Kevin Phillips believes the Whites have what it takes to get something on Sunday.

Daniel Farke’s men are not the most prolific, but they have made it count when needed. Five of their nine goals have come in wins; the 1-0 win over Forest and the 4-1 win over Newcastle. Other games have ended in draws and they have only one loss this season.

They face a Sunderland side who will no doubt be desperate for a result.

Regis Le Bris’ men are on a four game losing streak in the Premier League which has caused some friction among the squad. Defender Nordi Mukiele aired his frustration when the team lost last weekend.

This Sunday’s game at the Stadium of Light will be a big one.

Sunderland have just six league goals themselves despite the attacking firepower they showed last season.

Things have not gone well at all for the Black Cats in this campaign. 14 goals conceded in just seven games shows how poor the team are defensively. Daniel Farke will no doubt have his team ready to capitalize.

Former Sunderland man Kevin Phillips tips Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and James Justin as the ‘danger men’ for Sunday’s game.

“They need a result, but they’re coming up against a team that’s got some really, really good players, a very, very good team, and physically a very, very good team as well, so they know they’re going to be in for a battle.” he said, quoted by YEP.

“I think the obvious one that stands out is Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He’s an absolute handful on his day. He’s a nuisance, he’s good in the air, he’s good at holding it up, he’s got energy, his work rate, and he can score goals. You put the ball in the box, and he’s very, very good in the air. So he’s the most obvious one.

“I think James Justin on that right-hand side, up and down, energy, he creates goals, gets into good positions. And again, he’s a constant threat.

“And I think Anton Stach in the midfield area, he’s been one of their better players this season, one of their best players, a very, very accomplished midfield player and very, very good at set plays as well. And when you’ve got a player like Calvert-Lewin who can jump, that’s a recipe for success.

“So those are just three, but I think you need to be wary of the whole team. They need to match them. So a big, big game, but I would say those three are the players to look out for.”

Whites have enough in them for a win on Sunday

Leeds must get a result when they come up against Sunderland because if they fail to do so, it will be the second time in a week they have failed to make a mark as favourites.

Last weekend they failed to beat a Man United side in poor form. On another day, they could have lost that game.

Now, they have a chance to get three points on the board facing a team who have lost four straight games.

The Whites need to be capitalizing on these games if they really want to establish themselves in the top flight.
