Leeds United made history on Monday night, becoming the first Championship winners to win their opening Premier League game in 17 years. And they achieved that feat infront of their home crowd at Elland Road.

The Whites played a very good game, and limited David Moyes’ side in front of goal. Leeds created some good chances, but were unable to finish, showing the need for attacking reinforcements before the window closes.

Farke’s side dominated most of the match, and should have scored. But it took a late penalty from Lukas Nmecha to seal all three points. There was some controversy surrounding the decision as David Moyes was furious with the decision.

Before the game, Daniel Farke spoke in the pre-match press conference that Leeds had made a signing of ‘special’ importance in Anton Stach. The midfielder joined from Hoffenheim this summer.

“I’m excited about all of our signings, but with Anton, of course, there’s a special importance,” Farke stated.

“For us, it was crucial to strengthen the heart of the game with proven players – guys who have delivered at the top level, whether in the Premier League, Bundesliga, or La Liga. Anton 100% fits into this group.

“He’s already experienced for his age, and to earn call-ups for the German national team, you don’t just win that in a lottery – it shows his quality.

“He’s a proven player, mentally strong, intelligent, understands the game, and brings the physicality we need.

“He’s also very good on the ball, a pretty complex player overall, and honestly, one of my dream signings for this season.
