Jesse Marsch could soon be managing Canada in the knockout rounds of the World Cup after his Canada side beat Qatar 6-0 on Thursday evening.
Canada are on four points from their opening two games of the World Cup and are on course to reach the last 32 of the World Cup on home soil this summer.
However, Jesse Marsch, who Leeds fans do not have fond memories of, is ruffling feathers the wrong way despite his team doing well on the biggest stage of world football.
His post-game celebrations after the win over Qatar were a bit too boisterous for a few, especially after one of his players sustained a major injury during the game.
Former Leeds star slams ‘non-sense’ Jesse Marsch
The Canadian players were applauding the home fans at the end of the game as they reached one step closer to reaching the World Cup knockout rounds.
However, Jesse Marsch’s celebrations looked completely off the scale, and he has been termed ‘classless’ by former Leeds man Alan Cawley.
He insisted that the former Leeds boss showed no class or decorum with his celebrations at the end of the game and went way beyond just over the top.
Cawley insisted that he did the same at Leeds when he was manager at Elland Road, and some of his comments have been nothing more than nonsense during the World Cup.
Cawley said on RTE Sport: “For him to get a point on the opening day and three points today, I have absolutely no issue with that.
“But having been the class and decorum of what you have just seen, and it’s only the second group game of the tournament, just put a lid on it and cool your jets.
“He is doing a rallying call in every press conference he does.
“It’s the same at Leeds, and the same everywhere. That’s the way he carries on, but it’s absolute nonsense. Even if you listen to some of the stuff coming out of his mouth, it’s ridiculous.
“I have praised them, but have a bit of class.”
He is not winning any friends
Marsch has come under fire for enthusiastically singing the Canadian national anthem while being a United States of America citizen.
Former US international and Fulham star Clint Dempsey recently blasted the ex-Leeds boss for questioning his commitment towards the national team during his playing days.
His Canadian side are winning over hearts, but the manager’s antics have emerged as a distraction that they could do without.
Leeds fans do not have fond memories of him and are well aware of his inability to back his boisterous words with results on the pitch.
Oh come on. Alan Cawley is of course entitled to his opinion even if most fans regard his words as petty etiquette oppression. The journalist describes Alan Cawley as a former Leeds star but he never made a single appearance in two years on the club’s books.
Correct … I’ve been a Leeds fan for more than 60 years, and when I read the guy’s name, Alan Cawley, I simply don’t recognise the name with any connection to Leeds United.
As for Jesse Marsch … absolutely no class whatsoever.
