Leeds United have hit the 40-point mark in the Premier League table, and it would take a major meltdown for them to get relegated with four games left in the season.

The narrow 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final will hurt, and Ethan Ampadu admitted after the game that they were just not good enough in the first half.

However, Leeds still have much to look forward to, and the seven points from their last three games have more or less made it certain that they won’t go down this season.

The win over Manchester United at Old Trafford started that run, and it was their first league win over the Red Devils away from home in more than 45 years.

It was a momentous victory, and Gary Neville has highlighted how good Leeds were at Old Trafford and how Manchester United responded to it.

Gary Neville makes an honest Leeds United admission

Manchester United have won their next two league games against Chelsea and Brentford to more or less confirm their participation in next season’s Champions League.

They beat Brentford 2-1 at home on Monday night, and unlike the Leeds game a couple of weeks back, Michael Carrick’s side were quick off the blocks.

Gary Neville highlighted that fact and how they have reacted to losing to Leeds at Old Trafford.

However, he conceded that Leeds were far too good on the night and played brilliantly to walk away with all three points against Manchester United.

He said on the Gary Neville podcast: “It was a really quick start [for Manchester United vs Brentford], after the Leeds game a couple of weeks ago.

“It was a difficult night; Leeds played really well and deserved a victory.”

One more win will do the job for Leeds

Leeds are not mathematically out of the relegation race, but it would take a meltdown of epic proportions for them to get relegated with four games left.

However, a win over Burnley at home will calm any fraying nerves and will almost certainly put them beyond the reach of Tottenham in the league table.

Premier League Bottom Six Table 2025/26 Season
Pos Team MP Pts
15 Leeds United 34 40
16 Nottingham Forest 34 39
17 West Ham United 34 36
18 Tottenham Hotspur 34 34
19 Burnley (Relegated) 34 20
20 Wolverhampton (Relegated) 34 17

It may also work in Tottenham’s favour as they will then face a Leeds side at home next month that will be more comfortable about their Premier League status.

It is a must-win game for Spurs, so they would not prefer to take on a Leeds team needing something from that game in north London.
