Leeds United are still in a strong position to secure Premier League survival, even after the disappointment of their FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea on Sunday.

A narrow 1–0 defeat at Wembley Stadium ended Leeds’ hopes of reaching their first FA Cup final in over 50 years, with Chelsea edging them out on the day.

After the match, Ethan Ampadu admitted Leeds fell short in the first half and that the result at Wembley was deserved.

That said, there’s no time to dwell on it. Leeds still aren’t mathematically safe and will be targeting a win at home against Burnley on Friday night, especially after the latest results at the bottom of the table.

However, the Whites may also end up playing a big role in who eventually goes down, with Jamie Carragher insisting that one of their fixtures could decide the relegation race.

Jamie Carragher indicates Tottenham must beat Leeds at home

Tottenham ended their wait for a Premier League win in 2026 when they beat Wolves 1-0 at the weekend. However, West Ham and Nottingham Forest’s respective victories kept Spurs in the relegation zone.

However, Jamie Carragher has insisted that he is worried about Spurs problems up front and indicated that he cannot see them beating either Aston Villa or Chelsea away from home.

He stressed that Tottenham will be under immense pressure to beat Leeds at home next month to have any chance of Premier League survival this season.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “When we watch the Wolves game back, and you think of the injuries they have got now in attack, who is going to score for them and who is going to create something?

“I look at Villa away, and Chelsea away – tough games no matter how they are playing or how good a team you have got at Spurs.

“I can’t see them scoring a goal. What if they do score a goal? Maybe one, so to win the game, they need a clean sheet.

“I just find it difficult to make a case for them in those two games.

“That puts huge pressure on the Leeds game.”

Tottenham will hope Leeds are safe by then

Spurs’ injury problems got worse over the weekend after Xavi Simons picked up a knee injury that will keep him out until the end of the year.

The Leeds game is likely to be a must-win for Spurs when the Whites travel to north London. However, Tottenham hope to face a side who are already safe in the Premier League.

A win over Burnley on Friday night at Elland Road will almost certainly put Leeds out of Tottenham’s reach in the Premier League table.

Spurs would hope to take on a team that are comfortable and looking forward to the end of the season rather than a Leeds side still needing something from the game in north London.
