Leeds United came away from north London with a point after a 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Monday night, keeping West Ham’s survival hopes alive in the process.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised from the penalty spot following a lengthy VAR check after Mathys Tel had put Spurs ahead early in the second half.

Leeds almost grabbed a winner late on as well, but the Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky made an outstanding close-range save to deny Sean Longstaff.

Many expected Leeds to take their foot off the gas after confirming survival on Sunday, but Daniel Farke’s side maintained their intensity throughout against Spurs.

The Sky Sports panel can’t get enough of Leeds United

Former Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe has conceded that the off-the-ball work of the Leeds players gets rightly praised. However, he stressed that the Whites have shown they are a good football team when on the ball as well.

Defoe said on Sky Sports: “The manager mentioned culture at a football club, and everyone is sort of pulling in the right direction.

“In the second half, they were really good.

“Leeds are a good football team, and I don’t think they get enough credit.

“When we speak about Leeds and what they do without the ball out of possession.

“But when they get the ball back, they showed quality, and they have done that throughout the season.”

Jamie Carragher insisted that he no longer sees Leeds as a newly promoted team, as their football this season is of an established Premier League side.

“I do not see Leeds as a newly promoted team. I watch them and think they are an established Premier League club.

“They play good football, and I actually really enjoy watching Leeds.”

The Whites hold the keys to the relegation race

Leeds’ efforts on Monday night helped West Ham to stay alive in the survival race, and they still have a decent chance of lifting themselves out of the bottom three.

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has already demanded that Leeds show the same effort on the final day of the season when they take on the Hammers.

Spurs will next take on Chelsea, their London rivals, who will be more than happy to get a result and push Tottenham towards the brink of relegation.

However, it may all come down to the final day of the season and how Leeds turn up at the London Stadium against West Ham.
