Saturday was a huge day for Leeds United fan as they took one huge step closer to safety. Things have turned around massively over the past month.
Just before the international break, the Whites had picked up just two points from their last four games. And when the club were back in action, they were the last team among the relegation-threatened sides to play. But Daniel Farke’s men pulled out a huge result away to Old Trafford, to give themselves some breathing space ahead of this past weekend.
Leeds breezed past Wolves at Elland Road, scoring three goals without reply to walk to another three points. These six points have been enough to push the club eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Richard Keys and Andy Gray make Leeds United point after Wolves win
After Saturday’s win, beIN sports posted a graphic about the Premier League relegation battle, in which they included Leeds United. Richard Keys and Andry Gray disagreed with it, as they both believed that the Whites had secured their safety by reaching 39 points.

“They’re safe,” said Keys. “I don’t know what they’re doing on there with 39 points. It’s here.” Key said, referring to the graphic.
Andy Gray also added that 39 points would be enough to survive this season. “Yeah, 39 points is good. I agree with you.”
39 points have been enough to stay in the Premier League in the last five seasons. So it is understandable that Keys and Gray have firm belief that Daniel Farke’s side can beat the drop.

The season is not over yet
Leeds should be wary, nothing has been decided yet. As of this past weekend, no team has mathematically been relegated yet. But looking at the table now, it is most likely Wolves and Burnley will go down depending on the results in the next few days. The third spot is still open, which will see Leeds, Spurs, Forest and West Ham battle to avoid.
Daniel Farke’s side cannot avoid any mistakes going forward, considering Nottingham Forest and West Ham look to be picking up some crucial points. Spurs look the most likely to be the third team, but their draw with Brighton showed they still have some fight left in them. The relegation battle could easily go down to the final day of the season, so Leeds need to avoid complacency going forward.
