Jayden Bogle’s consistency is an asset for Leeds United

Jayden Bogle scored in Leeds United’s massive 4-0 win over Oxford United at Elland Road on Saturday. He has been the first-choice right-back for the Whites since he joined the club last summer. The defender has started all of the 20 Championship games he has been fit and available and is more or less one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s starting eleven.

Leeds pushed hard to sign the right-back last summer from Sheffield United following the latter’s relegation from the Premier League and he has turned out to be a solid signing for the club.

Bogle was the top target for Leeds because of his experience of playing in England and the Championship and the fact that he previously got promoted to the Premier League with Sheffield United.

The defender has shown this season why Leeds chased him hard and ensured they got a deal done to sign him from Sheffield United in the last summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old’s defensive ability did come under criticism at the start of the season but his performances have got better and better over the last few months and he is one of the most important players in the Leeds squad.

He is an attacking right-back and that is why Daniel Farke pushed for him hard as he plays a big role in sustaining the Leeds attacks in their style of play.

Leeds United depend on Jayden Bogle’s consistency

Jayden Bogle is one of those players who gives a seven out of ten performance in most games and most good teams have a few individuals like him in their line-up.

He has scored three times and has one assist to his name but there is more to his performances than those modest numbers for an attacking right-back.

Bogle is not the greatest when it comes to blocking cross as a right-back but he works hard on the pitch and goes up and down for the full 90 minutes.

Despite his attacking qualities, he doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties and attempts more than three tackles per game on average. He is also an important presence in the box with close to two clearances per game.

In attack, one of his most important traits is that he doesn’t lose the ball often. His ability to keep possession allows Leeds to sustain attacks in the final third.

Bogle’s consistency keeps Leeds ticking along and that’s one area of the pitch that Farke doesn’t have to worry about for the rest of the season if he remains fit for the rest of the campaign.

Do Leeds have more right-back options?

Bogle has allowed Leeds some consistency at right-back while they try to sort out their left-back problems due to Junior Firpo’s recent hamstring injury.

Sam Byram has taken up the left-back role and club captain Ethan Ampadu has also been used in that role in small cameos as he seeks to get back to full fitness following recovering from a knee injury.

Bogle has missed just two games this season for Leeds and it has allowed Farke to remain unconcerned about his options in that area of the squad.

Byram played in that position in the two games Bogle missed but the former is now featuring as the left-back in the team. With games coming thick and fast, Farke could be forced to rest the right-back at some point.

Ampadu can be deployed at right-back when needed and Byram can also shift back to that role with Max Wober another option who could be used as left-back if and when he is fit.

Farke would not want to change his right-back any time soon. However, even Bogle could need some rest at some point and the Leeds boss would have to look at other options.

Bogle has been the model of consistency for Leeds and has provided some rare security at right-back to the team this season.
