Joël Piroe tipped to make a major impact at Leeds United

After back-to-back wins after the FIFA international break, Leeds United had a frustrating match on the road, ending in a scoreless draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The Whites came into the game with momentum from two home victories: a 2-0 win over Sheffield United and a 2-1 triumph against Watford. Daniel Farke and his squad hoped to extend their success against a mid-table Bristol City team.

Leeds United registered eight shots in the first half while Bristol City managed three, but neither side could break the deadlock by halftime. In the second half, Leeds added one more attempt, bringing their total to nine, while Bristol City only tallied one. Despite efforts on both sides, the match ended goalless.

With this weekend’s scoreless draw, the conversation about Leeds United’s No. 9 is again on the agenda. David Norris believes Leeds United should continue relying on Joel Piroe as their main striker and trust the Dutchman’s goal-scoring abilities.

The former Leeds midfielder supports Farke’s patience with Piroe, whose last goal came against Sunderland on 4 October, despite the recent goalless draw with Bristol City.

“It’s a difficult one when you’re so effective coming off the bench not to stick with that,” Norris told MOT Leeds News. “I still think Piroe is the best finisher at the club, so I think Leeds should keep their faith in him for now. We’ve talked about the squad size, so it’s crucial that Farke does have these options.”

Despite the draw, Leeds United remain just outside the automatic Premier League promotion spots. They trail first-place Sunderland by five points, with Burnley holding the goal differential advantage over Daniel Farke’s side.

With the tight race, a win over Plymouth Argyle, who sit at the bottom of the Championship table, would be ideal. It’s a match the Whites should aim to take all three points from. A draw or loss would be a tough result for the team as they look to avoid the Championship Play-Off for a second straight season.

It will be interesting to see if manager Daniel Farke makes any changes to the No. 9 position for this match against Wayne Rooney’s side.
