Junior Firpo says he won’t leave Leeds United

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has made his stance on his future at the club clear as he revealed why he stayed at Elland Road this summer.

The fullback was signed to play under Marcelo Bielsa but only managed playing a handful of games under the coach. Injuries and fitness problems continued to plague Firpo over the past few seasons in England despite having a very clean injury slate while he was in Spain.

He had a host of offers from Europe as Leeds were relegated but decided not to move. According to Firpo, the prospect of playing under Daniel Farke is what kept him at the club:

“I never spoke after the market but this is the main reason why I stayed. I had a lot of offers but first of all, when you find a place that is home – this is what I found here in Leeds. Spanish players come from sunny lifestyle but I am a family guy.” He said, speaking on the Leeds United podcast.

The 27-year old says he’s happy in England and has now found a home at Leeds:

“Most of the time I am home with my wife and kids. I lived in Barcelona for two years, one minute away from the beach and didn’t go to the beach once. I prefer to be at home or the park with my kids.”

“The lifestyle here is different. In Spain when you go out people are asking for pictures when you are with your kids, here people are more polite. They leave your space and after they come really politely.”
