“Leeds are…” – Alan Smith makes bold Leeds relegation claim after West Ham result

Leeds United are now eight points clear of the relegation zone and look well on course to stay in the Premier League for another season.

Back-to-back league wins over Manchester United and Wolves have opened up a healthy gap between Leeds United and 18th-placed Tottenham.

Survival is now firmly within reach, and one more win could be enough to make it mathematically certain in this campaign.

West Ham’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday night has continued to keep the relegation race tight, with just five games left to play, and Alan Smith has provided his thoughts on it amid talk of Leeds being safe on 39 points.

Alan Smith makes a bold claim in favour of Leeds United

Smith is really worried about Tottenham going into the final games of the season, and has conceded that the Spurs players’ body language wasn’t great when they conceded the late equaliser against Brighton.

However, the former Arsenal star insisted that Leeds are more or less safe, despite the possibility of a few twists and turns in the last five games.

Smith said on Sky Sports, “It does feel unimaginable that Spurs could go down. You speak to people over the last few weeks, and people seem to say that Spurs will be okay.

“You would hope the players don’t think that, but you saw in the body language of the players on Saturday that they realise the desperate situation they are in.

“They are working really hard for De Zerbi, and they have obviously got to continue that now, but it’s the same across the board with Forest, Leeds and West Ham.

“You look at it, and you have to say that Leeds are safe now, really aren’t they? But we have seen it so often over the years now that things can change over the course of two or three games.”

Will Daniel Farke focus on the FA Cup?

The Leeds manager is staying grounded for now, but you can feel the excitement growing among the fans as the season heads towards its conclusion.

Supporters know that one more win should be enough to secure their Premier League status, if the last couple of results have not already done the trick.

There is also real anticipation ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, who are dealing with poor form and several injuries at this stage.

Leeds fans will be confident they can beat Chelsea again this season and book their place in the final at Wembley.

What once looked like a season that could fall apart back in November now has the potential to end with safety confirmed early and a cup final to look forward to.
