Leeds United are eight points clear of the relegation zone and are looking more than likely to stay in the Premier League for one more season.
The back-to-back league wins over Manchester United and Wolves have allowed Leeds to open a significant gap between them and Tottenham, who sit 18th in the table.
Leeds are almost certain to remain in the Premier League for one more season and may just need one more win to guarantee survival in the ongoing campaign.
The Whites were a hot topic of discussion on Monday Night Football, and West Ham’s draw against Crystal Palace added one more dimension to the survival race.
Leeds United fans told to relax on Monday Night Football
Jamie Carragher has tipped Leeds to finish on 45 points, while fellow studio guest Dean Ashton believes they will go one better and end the season on 46.
Both expect Leeds to lose away at Bournemouth, beat Burnley, and then fall to defeat against West Ham on the final day. They disagree on the trip to Tottenham, with Ashton backing Leeds to win and Carragher predicting a Spurs victory.
Carragher also sees Leeds beating Brighton in their final home game to reach 45 points, while Ashton is going for a draw in that fixture, which would take them to an impressive 46.
After laying out their predictions, Monday Night Football host Dave Jones made a tongue-in-cheek remark that Leeds United fans will no doubt enjoy.
“So Leeds United fans can relax and chill out with those points totals you have”, said Jones.
“They are almost pushing for Europe with that points tally.
“That 46 points predicted there is still possible for Spurs as well, but only if they were to win all their remaining games, which looks very unlikely even though Roberto De Zerbi is aiming for that.”
The Whites have a lot to play for still
Daniel Farke is not getting carried away just yet, but there is a real buzz among the Leeds fanbase as the season approaches its conclusion.
Supporters know that one more win should all but confirm survival, if the last two results have not already done the job.
There is also genuine excitement about Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, who are dealing with poor form and injuries at this stage of the campaign.
Leeds fans will fancy their chances of beating Chelsea again this season and booking a place in the final at Wembley.
What once looked like a season heading for collapse back in November could now end with safety secured early and a cup final to look forward to.
