Leeds United have already decided on the future of certain players who were part of the squad that finished 14th in their first season back in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke wants to hold on to his best players, and the club are pushing to agree on a new contract with club captain Ethan Ampadu, who has been linked with a move to Aston Villa.
Leeds are expected to listen to offers for Lucas Perri and Wilfried Gnonto, and there are question marks over the future of Pascal Struijk at Elland Road this summer.
However, Leeds have already finalised a decision on a player who flopped badly last season. But he is wanted by an ambitious sporting director in South America.
River Plate want Facundo Buonanotte
Leeds signed Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton in the winter transfer window. However, he did little to show why the Whites signed him.
The club have already decided that they won’t be signing him on a permanent deal, and Brighton are looking to move him on in the summer transfer window.
According to TyC Sports, River Plate is preparing to make a move to sign the Argentinian playmaker in the upcoming transfer window.
It has been claimed that the Argentinian giants believe that they can sign Buonanotte on loan from the Premier League in the coming weeks and months.
River Plate sporting director Pablo Longoria is leading the pursuit of the Leeds flop and is claimed to be obsessed with signing him in the summer.
Buonanotte has not shut the door on a move to Leeds, and River Plate have already presented the sporting project to the player ahead of the summer.
Brighton are keen to let him go, and it remains to be seen whether Buonanotte chooses to return to Argentina after a bruising loan spell at Leeds.
He was a baffling signing for Leeds
Buonanotte’s struggles at Leeds show the recruitment team in a poor light, as he was not a last-minute signing in the winter transfer window.
Leeds wanted to sign him last summer as well and had a deal in place with Brighton before the Argentinian chose to join Chelsea on loan.
He was a player Leeds were tracking for a while, and it seems the club and Farke had a plan for him to be part of the team from early in the campaign.
However, when he eventually arrived at Leeds in January, it seems Farke didn’t know what to do with him, or he just didn’t impress the manager enough.
Leeds will have to ensure that they do not commit such errors in the upcoming summer transfer window.
