Leeds United eye 23-year-old ‘giant’ after Daniel Farke demands change

Leeds United will address their goalkeeping situation this summer. It is something the 49ers need to resolve before next season starts.

Lucas Perri was signed last summer to be first choice, but he was dropped in the second half of the campaign after some errors. Karl Darlow took over and was outstanding.

He ended the season on a very high note, but his future is in the air. Darlow alongside two other Leeds keepers are out of contract this month.

Daniel Farke hinted that Karl Darlow’s future will be addressed after the end of the season, so there is still time for a new contract.

Alex Cairns will also be out of contract, and it looks unlikely the reserve keeper will sign a new deal heading into next season. But the club could keep him around in a coaching role given his work with the U21s.

Illan Meslier is one player who will definitely leave Elland Road, after having been relegated to third choice last year.

Leeds United eyeing 23-year old star

If Cairns, Meslier and Darlow do leave, that leaves just Perri as the only first team goalkeeper under contract at Elland Road.

So going into the summer, Leeds United have been linked with a long list of potential goalkeeping targets. Manchester City star James Trafford and Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale have been linked.

According to Football Insider, Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek is on the Whites’ radar going into the transfer window.

The 23-year old kept 12 cleans sheets in 33 appearances last season. He stands at 6ft 6in, which will make him one of the tallest keepers in the Premier League if he does make the move.

The report adds that even though Hornicek is a target, the club will also be keeping an eye on other shortlisted players.

Whites need to do everything to keep Karl Darlow

Keeping Karl Darlow should be the club’s priority this summer. The Leeds United goalkeeper has done enough to earn himself at new deal at Elland Road.

He showed that he is very capable at Premier League level, and can be a temporary fix going into next season.

It is clear that Leeds will try and sign a new keeper this summer, but Darlow being in the fold will be very useful.

The Welshman being with the team will also mean that the Whites will not be in a rush to spend money to sign another starting calibre keeper like they did with Perri last summer.
