After finishing 14th in the Premier League, Leeds United have now shifted their focus towards the summer transfer window as they look to build on the progress made last season.
The Whites exceeded expectations during their first campaign back in the top flight, securing their Premier League status with games to spare and ending the season comfortably in mid-table.
The next challenge for Leeds is strengthening the squad while remaining financially disciplined. With the Premier League’s new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) regulations now in place, the club will need to strike a careful balance between investing in the team and staying within the league’s spending limits.
Leeds are looking at bargain deals in the market, and the club are definitely in the race to sign an international midfielder who is likely available for a relatively small fee.
Jordan James is on Leeds United’s radar
Leicester City have been relegated to League One after a dreadful season in the Championship. However, Jordan James was one of the shining lights of the team.
He scored 11 goals and registered four assists from the midfield in 34 Championship appearances this season and is almost certain to leave the Foxes.
Leeds have been heavily linked with an interest in James, and according to Birmingham World, the Whites are definitely in the race to sign the 21-year-old Welshman.
The Yorkshire giants have been tracking the midfielder for months, and the club remain interested in getting their hands on the 26-cap Wales midfielder.
Wolves are also keen to sign him, but Leeds have the edge over the relegated Midlands side, who are preparing for a season in the Championship.
However, James has suitors in Europe as well, and it could be a problem for Leeds. But the Whites are still in the race to sign the Leicester star.
He is likely to be available for a knockdown price
Leicester’s relegation to League One has ramped up the pressure on the club to sell players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
And they are in no position to demand a big fee for a player of James’ quality due to their relegation to the third tier of English football.
There are suggestions that the 21-year-old Welsh midfielder is likely to be available for a fee as low as £10m in the upcoming summer transfer window.
If Leicester were in the Championship, James could have been valued at more than double that figure, given his quality and his age.
However, Leeds may now have a chance to sign a player with a high ceiling for a relatively small fee this summer.
