Leeds United ended this season with Karl Darlow as their first choice goalkeeper. The veteran arrived at the club a few years ago, expected to be a backup.

Before that season, Daniel Farke refused to give a straightforward answer about Illan Meslier’s place in the team.

In the Whites’ promotion campaign, things got a little rough from January. Leeds started dropping a few points with Meslier at the center of it all. So Farke decided to bench the Frenchman.

Darlow stepped in for the last seven games, and the team eventually won promotion.

In the summer, the club splashed the cash on a new goalkeeper in Lucas Perri. The Brazilian came with a lot of expectations due to his price tag. His start to the season was okay before he got injured.

Darlow stepped in once again, before Perri returned late in the year.

Leeds United star set for exit as European giants plan move

After a series of mistakes, Farke once again made a big decision to change the Leeds United number one.

Karl Darlow was made the club’s first choice till the end of the season and the Whites survived to secure another season in the Premier League.

In all this, Illan Meslier has slipped from number one down to number three in the pecking order and is set to leave Elland Road this year. His contract is up in the summer, and he can leave as a free agent.

According to Spanish outlet OB, Meslier is a major target for Sevilla this summer. The La Liga side see him as a ‘strategic opportunity’ as they plan to replace their starting keeper.

The club recently navigated some financial issues, and going forward they want to keep the club afloat. Signing Meslier on a free transfer would be a great transfer for Sevilla.

49ers missed out on a huge chance last summer

Everyone around Elland Road thought the French keeper would leave the club last summer.

After it was clear that he would not be first choice going into the Premier League, his only real path was to leave. In the summer, there were some offers, but the club rejected it.

Leeds chiefs revealed that the offers were not good enough for a potential deal.

Now, the keeper is set to leave on a free transfer this summer and with that, any opportunity to make some money off him.
