The 49ers are already putting plans in place for Leeds United this summer. The last transfer window saw the club invest over £100 million into the team upon their Premier League return.

Leeds have benefitted much from this influx of quality this season, and the Whites could clinch safety because of that. However, the season is far from over and Daniel Farke’s side have five league games left to clinch a spot in the competition next season.

Going into the summer, a lot of decisions will be made. There are a number of players with expiring contracts, which the club will have to decide on in the coming months.

Leeds United keen on Newcastle star

And after giving the green light for a bunch of loan transfers, a lot of players will return to Elland Road. Many clubs are not keen on keeping these Leeds United players past this season. Reports going around the club suggest that a new striker could be on the shortlist for this summer window. And with three goalkeepers set to leave in the coming months, a shot stopper could be a priority.

According to Football Insider, Leeds have their eye on Newcastle left back Matt Targett. The defender is currently on loan at Middlesbrough this season and has had an impressive campaign. With his contract at St. James’ Park up in June, he is set to leave on a free transfer. The report adds that the 30-year old is keen on playing Premier League football next season, with Leeds United and Everton showing interest. Targett has four goals and three assists in the Championship for Boro this season.

Sam Byram set for Elland Road exit

Leeds signing Targett would be a great move; the club have been after a backup for Gabriel Gudmundsson this season. James Justin has been used in a number of roles by Farke due to his tactical fit. Even though he has played at left back in some games, he does not provide the same quality as the Swedish international. A left footed left back would be ideal in that role, and Matt Targett would be a solid option. Byram has been on the sidelines for most of the season even after his contract was extended this summer. Bringing in a new left back with Premier League experience on a free transfer would be a huge coup for the Whites heading into next season. Sam Byram has been a great servant for Leeds, but unfortunately he is not at the level to be a regular contributor in this team – his contract is also up this summer.
