Leeds United booked their ticket to the FA Cup semi-final a few weeks ago by beating West Ham in a penalty shootout. This weekend will see the Whites play at this stage of the competition for the first time in over 35 years.

It has been a surprising run for the team in the domestic competition this season, considering the fact that Daniel Farke had not really taken them seriously since he took over the club. The Whites beat Derby, Norwich, Birmingham City and West Ham on their way to Wembley.

This weekend, they will face Chelsea, who themselves are not in the best position ahead of the semi-final. The Blues are in poor form, and under pressure, with Liam Rosenior’s future under discussion at Stamford Bridge. Leeds will play Bournemouth midweek before they face Chelsea in what could be a big week for the West Yorkshire club.

Leeds United set to receive extra tickets for FA Cup semi-final

Before the semi-final date was fixed, it was expected that the Whites would be allocated around 34,000 and just over 36,000 tickets. Wembley has 90,000 capacity, but tickets are never split 45,000 between each team because there are special reservations for commercial partners. The days leading to the fixture confirmation were hectic as the Leeds United Supporter’s Trust blasted the FA who delayed in confirming the date.

On Wednesday, just days before the semi-final, Leeds officially announced that there will be extra tickets for the game. In a statement on the club’s official website, it was revealed that a ‘Members Ballot’ will be held to distribute a limited number of tickets to fans.

Daniel Farke can make history at Wembley

The focus will be on Wednesday’s game against Bournemouth, but when the club gets that out of the way, their focus will be on the FA Cup. Their run in the cup competition this season has been a bit unexpected but they have made the most of it. Farke has done a solid job with the club in the league this season, and as things stand, they are just a few games away from clinching survival. Leeds could give supporters a huge gift with a place in the FA Cup final. Their opponents Chelsea have their own struggles to deal with, and could be under pressure to deliver heading into the game.
