Leeds United have several important decisions to make this summer as they look to shape their squad for next season, but Manchester United could be about to complicate some of those plans with their move for Karl Darlow.

There is plenty of optimism around Elland Road after Leeds comfortably secured Premier League survival and finished 14th in their first season back in the top flight.

Attention has now turned to the transfer market, with the club keen to bring in players capable of taking the team to the next level. Daniel Farke is determined to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, and Leeds are focused on building on last season’s success rather than merely maintaining their position in the division.

Leeds are still sweating over their goalkeeping options for next season, and The Athletic’s latest report should send shivers down the spine of executives at Elland Road.

Manchester United want Karl Darlow

Karl Darlow has yet to sign a new contract, and as things stand, he can leave Leeds on a free transfer at the end of June.

According to The Athletic’s Beren Cross and others, Manchester United are plotting a deal to sign the Leeds goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.

Manchester United want a solid back-up to Senne Lammens, and Darlow has emerged as a cost-effective option due to his contract situation at Leeds.

Darlow’s performances at Elland Road last season have turned heads in the Premier League, and Manchester United are pushing to sign the experienced goalkeeper.

Manchester United are looking to hold talks with the Welshman’s representatives and convince him to move to Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.

Leeds are keen to hold on to Darlow and are hoping that he will sign a new contract. However, Manchester United’s interest has now complicated the matter.

The Whites need to make a decision soon

Leeds have been considering going with Darlow and Perri as their goalkeepers next season, and avoiding bringing in a new goalkeeper.

However, Perri has been unconvincing, and if the Welshman leaves Leeds, the club will be forced to sign a new shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window.

Leeds have been keen to see Darlow sign a new contract, and they would have preferred to sign a new goalkeeper as Perri’s replacement.

The club are open to offers for the Brazilian, but the Welshman’s departure will be a major blow for Leeds’ transfer plans this summer.

Leeds have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope, who has a year left on his contract with the club.
