Leeds United boss Daniel Farke’s commandments show his diligence in the market

Leeds United have ten days to bring in any new signings in the winter transfer window. The Whites have remained calm and for a while it seemed, they would not be bringing anyone in January. However, the Leeds boss has indicated that the club could try to strengthen the squad with three new players but nothing is imminent at the moment. But Daniel Farke stressed that they would not sign someone for the sake of it and any new signing would have to fulfil three criteria before they could join the Yorkshire giants. The Leeds manager is reticent about signing new players in the middle of the season but if he has to bring in someone, he wants to ensure that all due diligence is carried out.

The loan departures of Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Crew are the only significant transfer business Leeds United has conducted so far in the winter transfer window.

Leeds are yet to bring in anyone and for a few weeks, it seemed that the club would not be signing anyone because of Farke’s unwillingness to add new players to his squad in the winter transfer window.

However, the Leeds boss has admitted that he could be open to signing as many as three players for as many positions before the end of the winter transfer window on 3rd February.

This is a departure from what he was saying even a few weeks back but Leeds will now apparently remain vigilant about adding players to their squad in the next ten days.

However, the Leeds boss insisted that three criteria must be fulfilled before Leeds can bring in anyone before the end of the transfer window.

Daniel Farke’s three commandments for Leeds United transfer business

The Leeds boss is open to bringing in new players but he has specific ideas and some things need to be checked before anyone can be signed.

Farke was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It would be good to add slightly different attributes but the January market is not that easy. We will be picky in the three rules, three boxes that have to be ticked.

“The quality has to be right. It’s not like we’ll just add a number. It has to be a proper quality, then the character has to fit the group. Attitude has to be on top level. And the third thing is he has to be affordable.

“The three need to come together in order to make a signing. If there is a solution we’ll do this.”

The Leeds manager has specified his requirements, making it evident that the club will only sign players who possess high quality, the right mentality to fit in the Whites squad, and are affordable.

However, the good news for Leeds fans is that the club are in the market for new signings and fresh faces could be added to the squad before the window closes on 3rd February.

What positions Leeds are looking at?

Leeds fans have been discussing amongst themselves about what Leeds would need. Supporters feel Leeds need a reliable goalkeeper and a forward to boost their promotion chances.

However, the Leeds boss has a few different ideas and Farke has outlined the players he would want if Leeds get into the market in the last ten days of the window.

The Whites boss wants a new number 10 who can provide a different option to the squad other than Brenden Aaronson who has started the last 26 league games for the club.

Farke also wants to bring in a new forward to have one more reliable striker in the squad and also bring in a centre-back to cover the injury of Pascal Struijk who will be out for ten weeks due to their hamstring injury.

It seems the Leeds boss is happy to have Illan Meslier as his first-choice goalkeeper despite his inconsistency and is not looking to add to his wide areas in the winter window.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds manage to bring in a new player or two before the window closes on 3rd February.
