Leeds United announced that Ethan Ampadu signed a new contract to remain at Elland Road until 2030. It was one big step that the club took ahead of their upcoming season.

Daniel Farke’s men secured another campaign in the top flight after a very impressive season. Despite being tipped to be relegated, the team turned things around in the middle of the season.

Leeds eventually finished in 14th place, exceeding many expectations.

Going into next season, Farke has already made it clear that the club need to match his ambition. The Leeds boss is set to hold talks over his contract this summer, and he has already indicated that he wants to stay.

Club chairman Paraag Marathe said signing Ampadu to an extension was a decision the club did not have second thoughts over.

Leeds United expected to sign three players this summer

Daniel Farke was adamant that Leeds United will need to invest in signings on the pitch. He referenced the 2020 season under Bielsa, saying the lack of signings eventually hurt the club.

Marathe has promised this summer that the club’s ownership will spend on the team. Last year saw the club spend over £100 million on players, and this upcoming window could see a similar outlay.

According to Football Insider, Leeds will look to improve the squad in three key areas of the pitch. Which most likely means the club will see at least three signings in the coming months.

Per reports earlier this year, the club will identify targets that fit in Farke’s 3-5-2 system.

Which areas Leeds could improve this summer

Leeds looking to recruit players that fit into the club’s tactics will likely mean that there will be additions in the defence, midfield and attack.

Towards the tail end of last year, Joe Rodon’s injury meant that the club had to shift bodies to replace him in the backline. The Whites currently have four center backs in the first team.

They will need more than that number if they want to play a back three across a whole season.

In midfield, the club could use another quality addition in the middle of the park. Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach will be key next season, but Leeds need another player to compete with Longstaff, Gruev and Ao Tanaka.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is Leeds’ best attacker, but his goal drought in the middle of the season raised concerns. The 49ers bringing in another striker should not be ruled out.
