Leeds United handed major blow as agent denies expected transfer: “We are surprised”

Daniel Farke is now focused on preparing his Leeds United side for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest. However, plenty of work is still going on behind the scenes as the club looks to strengthen the squad.

Leeds have already made four signings this summer, with Nico Elvedi becoming the latest arrival after completing his move from Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday.

The Whites have also been busy on the outgoing front, with Joel Piroe and Sebastiaan Bornauw both completing loan moves to West Ham and Hamburg respectively this week.

Attention is now turning to the remaining gaps in the squad, with Farke keen for Leeds to bring in more reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Leeds United target’s agent denies imminent Elland Road move

Leeds are reportedly lining up a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer as James Trafford’s number 2 before the end of the window.

However, the goalkeeper’s agent has straight up denied any impending move and insisted that his client is happy at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Nico Pellatz, his agent, told Bild: “We are very surprised by reports that Michael Zetterer is on the verge of a transfer.

“These are simply not true. Michael and his family are very happy in Frankfurt.

“A move is currently out of the question for him.”

Leeds are apparently in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt and his representatives over a deal to take him to Elland Road before the end of the window.

Eintracht are prepared to sell him if they get a good price and they can secure a replacement for the goalkeeper.

However, it appears the 31-year-old does not want to leave the German club and is pushing to stay at Eintracht beyond the window.

Leeds need a backup for James Trafford

Alex Cairns has featured for Leeds during pre-season, but his performances have done little to suggest he is ready for anything more than a third-choice role at Elland Road.

He failed to make a save during the penalty shootout defeat to Manchester United in Dublin and has not looked particularly convincing between the posts.

James Trafford is now firmly established as Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper, but the club still need a reliable number two who can step in whenever the England international is unavailable.

So far, Cairns has done little to convince anyone that he can fill that role, whether Trafford picks up an injury or Daniel Farke needs to rotate his goalkeeper for cup competitions.

This move doesn’t make sense anyway. The keeper wants first team football and is in his prime for a keeper. The young lad from Derby would be a much better fit and understudy

A lot of lies floating around — many reports stating he will arrive as soon as the selling club complete the signing of a new goalkeeper and the agent saying the opposite. There are numerous rumours including a move for Delap. Why would Leeds spend so much on a back up for Calvert-Lewin? The only logic I see in this is that due to Calvert Lewin’s age Leeds need a competent understudy to gradually replace him and act as an existing second striker. Personally, I think Leeds need to look for a cheaper option with growing potential that can fit the bill at lower cost. There are other positions that need attention before the window closes.
