Leeds United spent over £100 million in transfers last season on their return to the top flight. The consensus was that the club needed to bolster their squad to stand a chance in the top flight.
The 49ers targeted very smart deals for starting quality players like Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol.
Daniel Farke managed to make this team gel despite having added 10 new players, and they were able to go on a run in the middle of the season. That saw Leeds pick enough points in the second half of the season to survive relegation.
This time around, things have been very different at Elland Road. The club’s ownership have been very willing to spend big on transfers and that has been very clear so far.
£40 million on James Trafford and £34 million on Tarik Muharemovic, their fees combined have already breezed past half of their total spending last summer.
Leeds United make crucial transfer decision after latest update
And Leeds United are not done in this window as they look to secure some key targets.
On Thursday news emerged that the Whites were very keen on adding Chelsea star Liam Delap. Reports have already confirmed that a striker is one of the profiles on the shortlist for the club ahead of the transfer deadline.
Chelsea are said to value Delap around £40 million, with Nottingham Forest and Everton also interested.
The YEP have reported on Friday that Leeds United have no interest in a move for the England U21 striker.
Delap will no doubt be looking for a way out from the London club, but as it stands, his next destination will not be Elland Road. The 23-year old scored just two goals in 41 appearances last season.
